The installation of Ring doorbell options should always be left to a professional, but there are a few things to consider before you even purchase a smart doorbell system. Let’s take a look at some of those points of consideration…

Installation of Ring Doorbell: 5 Things to Consider Before Purchase

1. Do You Want a Wired or Wireless Smart Doorbell?

Many people think that there is just one Ring doorbell, but there are actually numerous options to choose from! Ring currently offers four wired doorbell options  – Video Doorbell Wired, Video Doorbell Pro, Video Doorbell Pro 2, and Video Doorbell Elite. Ring also offers three battery powered doorbell options – Video Doorbell (2020 Release), Video Doorbell 3, and Video Doorbell 3 Plus.

2. Which Ring Doorbell System Do You Want?

Once you have decided whether you want to buy a wired or wireless Ring doorbell system, you have just about halved the number of doorbell models that you have to choose from. Now you need to decide which option among those choices is the best for your needs. If you have the budget, we always recommend going with the most recently released model with all of the bells and whistles simply because there are very few “bells and whistles” that a doorbell can have that are not necessary! Plus, the more functional your new video doorbell is, the more control you have over the system and the safer you can feel in your home.

If you are looking for the most up to date wired Ring Doorbell system with all of the “extras,” we suggest placing a preorder for the Video Doorbell Pro 2. It will set you back around $250, but it includes 1536p HD Video, HD Audio, unique 3D Motion Detection, and built-in Alexa Greetings that will answer the door for you.

If you are looking for the most up to date wireless Ring Doorbell system with all of the “extras,” we suggest the Video Doorbell 3 Plus. This doorbell option will set you back close to $200, but that includes features like improved motion detection, customizable motion zones and Pre-Roll technology that includes a 4-second video preview of each motion event so that your system will start recording before you get your first alert.

3. Do You Want to Invest In A Subscription Service?

Not all Ring doorbell users invest in the Ring Protect Plans, but again, if you want the best service from your new video doorbell system, it’s worth the monthly subscription fee.

Ring offers two Ring Protect Plans – Basic and Plus.

The Basic plan includes activate video recording for one Ring device and costs $3 a month or $30 a year.

The Plus plan includes activate video recording for all Ring devices in your home as well as 24/7 professional monitoring for your Ring Alarm. This upgraded plan costs $10 a month or $100 a year.

Even if you choose not to invest in a monthly subscription plan, Ring offers a free service for all Ring users which includes motion-activated notifications, real-time video with Live View, two-way talk, and lifetime theft protection.

4. Do You Want Any Other Ring Devices?

If you plan on purchasing other Ring devices it can be helpful to purchase them all at once. Not only can you save by bundling devices, but you can also save by having your professional installer install everything at the same time!

Other devices that you can choose to add to your Ring Smart Home system include added video cameras, a home security system, and smart lighting. There are also a number of devices that are compatible with the Ring system. These devices include smart home locks and garage control device.

If you plan on investing in the Ring Plus subscription option, we’d advise getting a home security system from Ring too since you will be paying for security system monitoring anyway.

5. Where Do You Want to Place Each Device You Purchase?

Most likely, if you only purchase a Ring doorbell, that doorbell will be installed at the front entrance of your home, but if you have purchased additional devices or a second Ring doorbell, you will want to plan out where each of these devices will be installed. If you aren’t sure where you want each item installed, your professional installer can help you to identify optimal areas in your home.
