When it comes to speaker installation, the first step in getting the job done right is picking out the right speakers for your space. As a leading speaker installation company in southwest Florida, we know plenty about selecting the right speakers, so today we’re stopping by with 7 tips to help you to choose the right ones for you.
Speaker Installation: 7 Considerations When Picking Out Your Speakers
1. Set Up Your Room Layout Before You Go Shopping
Set up the furniture in your room and your TV before you go shopping for your speakers. This will tell you how much space you have to work with and the distance you have to work with between your back wall and your TV. This is important because you don’t want to select a sound system that has too much power for the space you are working with.
2. Consider Other Surfaces in the Room
The surfaces in the room where you are having your speakers installed can also influence the sound profile that you wind up with after your speaker installation. For example, a room with a lot of soft surfaces like carpeting, drapery, and sofas is going to have a much different sound profile than a room with hardwoods and wooden chairs. Your soft surfaces are going to absorb a lot of your sound where your hard surfaces can create an echo.
3. Consider the Size of Your Room
The size of your room also has a lot to do with the sound profile you wind up with after speaker installation. If you have a larger room you are going to want a larger sound system than if you have a smaller room. Keep in mind, though, that the distance between the front and back walls and the placement of the speakers in your room will also influence your sound profile.
4. Wired or Wireless?
There are both wired and wireless surround sound speakers and there are factors that influence which of these speaker types is right for you. For example, if you are renting a home, you will probably do best having wireless speakers installed so that installation doesn’t require running any wiring behind the walls. You can also have freestanding mounts for wireless speakers.
5. Know What Type of Speakers You Want
Floor speakers, bookshelf speakers, center-channel speakers, surround speakers, subwoofers…there are many different types of speakers and before you head out to the store, know which speakers you want to install, how many of each speakers you want, and whether you want to purchase a pre-packaged speaker system or build your own.
6. Research Speaker Brands
Which speaker brands do you prefer? Do you have a brand preference or have you read reviews of certain brands that claim them to be the best? Take the time to research the different speaker brands, see what each brand has to offer, see what others say about each brand, read up on the products that each brand has and know which level of product you can afford and where that product falls on the spectrum of the products they offer? For example, if you can only afford the cheapest speaker setup from Bose but you can afford a better setup from Samsung, how do those products match up? Don’t rush into a purchase because of brand loyalty or budget, take time to look at the specs of each speaker you are considering before purchase and speaker installation.
7. Listen to the Speakers Before You Buy Them
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, listen to the speakers you are considering purchasing before you purchase them and pay for speaker installation. Just because someone else recommends a speaker or because it’s highly rated by a company, doesn’t mean that you personally will enjoy the sound profile of that speaker set. People hear sound differently and the way you hear a particular speaker system isn’t going to be the same as how your spouse hears the same speaker system. Be sure to visit showrooms that have speaker systems on display in room setups so that you can listen to the system before you buy it to make sure that everyone in your home is satisfied with the sound quality.
