Installation Made Easy: 7 Tips to Make Installations Easier

1. Call a Professional

The first tip for making your installation projects easier is to call a professional! It is a piece of advice that many people are reluctant to take, but one that a lot of people wish they had taken after the fact. Calling in a professional will not only make sure that the job gets done on a concise timeline but that it also gets done properly and doesn’t need to be redone later. This “redoing” is what leaves many people wishing that they’d called in a professional in the first place.

2. Know What You Are Doing Ahead of Time

No matter what you are going to install it’s important that you know what you are doing before you begin. Not all installation projects are the same and you must know how to complete the exact installation job that you are undertaking or you will run into a significant number of problems and frustrations.

3. Measure Twice, Cut Once

Measurements are a crucial part of every installation. It is your measurements that will get your placement right, your measurements that will make sure that your installation is level, and your measurements that will make sure that you can fit an entire installation in a designated area – kitchen cabinets, for example. Measuring everything twice will make sure that you only have to cut once and that you won’t make irreversible mistakes.

4. If You Can’t, Then Don’t!

We mentioned above the importance of knowing what you are getting into before you begin the project, but it’s equally as important that you know your ability. If you know (or have a feeling that) you can’t complete a project or just don’t have the knowledge needed to complete the project, don’t begin it! Leave the job to someone who does have the experience and understanding needed to do the job properly.

5. Set a Timeline

One problem that many of us have is beginning a project and then dragging that project out for weeks, months, or years… This doesn’t just cause an inconvenience as we have unfinished projects lying around, it also creates a looming sense of having something unfinished in our lives. Avoid this by setting a (realistic) timeline for your installation project. If you have not finished the project by the designated date, it’s time to call in a professional to get the job done for you or else you risk having the clutter of an unfinished project sitting around your home for goodness knows how long!

6. Quality Materials Are Important!

One of the biggest mistakes that you can make during any installation project is to use subpar materials and tools to get the job done. This will only serve to make your job harder and will very likely mean having to redo the job again within a relatively short time which is frustrating and expensive!

7. Work a Project Through Before Beginning

Knowing what a project entails and that you can do it before beginning is important, but it’s also important to mentally walk through an entire project to ensure that each step of your installation is done in the right order. For example, when installing your kitchen cabinets, it’s important that you install the cabinets in the correct order otherwise you will run into difficulty when you get to the later stages of the project. So, if you install your base cabinets before your wall cabinets, you are going to have to work around the base cabinets to get the wall cabinets installed. However, if you install the wall cabinets first, you have a clear path to install them without having to work around your base cabinets.
